Friday – 7am

Distance: 5.7226 km

Wednesday Ultimate was great. I felt good about how I played. The only downsides were that I tore up my elbow again (not as bad this time) and had a light sprain. A couple hot showers and a good amount of stretching later and it’s tender but I don’t think it will hold back my running.

This morning I met with a runner from work and think I’ll be running regularly with them (once or twice a week) in the mornings. It’s fun to be running with someone else, and it’s good that it’s the morning because I really need to be transitioning from afternoon to morning (to emulate race-day).

Beer and Chinese Food a Good Runner Do Not Make

The title says enough, but:
Distance: 4 km
Time:  15 min

The incline was set to 1.0, so I suppose that’s something. I was on a new treadmill, but I think it was just new to me. I now know why it wasn’t being used. It stopped my run arbitrarily after 15 minutes. I don’t like that… although I happened to be glad at the time.

Tonight is ultimate. Tick tick tick…

Waterloo Half-Marathon Course

I put together the course with gmaps-pedometer: http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=2574568

Very exciting.

Friday – 830am

Distance: 10 km
Time: 44:17

Another best ever. The treadmill is good for feeding my ego.

I wasn’t able to give blood yesterday. I guess they don’t want people with huge scrapes on their elbows (in my case, from last week’s ultimate). It’s been neat to watch it heal a bit each day. The body is an amazing thing.

Tomorrow’s forecast is iffy, but I hope to run a long one outdoors.

Tuesday – 8pm

Distance: 10 km
Time: 44:51

Finally! I have been pushing for the goal of 10k in under 45 minutes since shortly after I started running, and (even though it was on a treadmill with no incline) it feels great to finally reach it.

Tonight is ultimate, tomorrow I’m giving blood, so I’m going to be cautious on Friday when I head out for my 10k. If things don’t go well I’m going to postpone Saturday’s planned 17k run (again).

Monday run

14km

1hr 21 min.

Not so fast, but since I hadn’t run in 6 days, I guess that’s ok.  The temp. was 1C, but it felt much colder, really windy.  I wasn’t a very happy camper for most of the run.

Having a watch is cool.  I can start keeping track of my time, and comparing beginning speed to end speed.

Thanks to Jess for giving me some glide stick thing that solved the nipple issue.

maybe gym tonight.  definitely tomorrow.

Sunday – 4pm

Distance: 10.499 km
Time: 51 minutes

Sunday’s run felt really good. I was actually surprised that my time wasn’t considerably better. In any event, I had a good push at the end and enjoyed the warm(er) weather quite a bit.

Yesterday (Monday) was going to be my 17km run, but I knew that wasn’t going to happen after running on Sunday. Running three days in a row and then going for a longest-ever run would have been pushing it. I think this week I’ll be running tonight (Tuesday), then Ultimate tomorrow, rest on Thursday, 10km on Friday, and then I’ll go for the 17km on Saturday.

I recognized someone as a runner by their Polar watch this morning. I like being part of the club.

Saturday – 1030am

Distance: 10.499 km
Time: 52 minutes

Another pretty good run. It was nice weather out and I felt the part with all my gear. I’m looking forward to it getting a bit warmer.

Friday – 510pm

Distance: 10.9469 km
Time: 52 min

Big plans today, but they failed to come to fruition as I got home too late and the temperature was dropping pretty rapidly. I decided to postpone my next big mileage run to Monday and run a couple 10k’s first to get back in the swing of things after taking a few days off running.

The run itself was nice. The sidewalks are mostly clear, and I had layered up enough so that the cold wasn’t too noticeable. It was the first run that I’ve used my antique iPod Shuffle strapped to my arm. It’s much smaller than my BlackBerry and until I can find a way to keep my Curve from bouncing around I’m just going to go with the Shuffle.

I was pretty stiff to start, but then at km #4.5 I started feeling a lot better. I haven’t been thinking too much about warm-up when I’ve been running so I think (especially on the long runs) I’m going to take it easy for the first few km until I’m warm.

Now that I think of it, I had a great game at Wednesday’s Ultimate, and I spent a long time warming up then, too. I’ve stopped following the arguments about whether or not it’s good to stretch before exercise but at the least it gave me a chance to get focused on my upcoming game. I’ll spend some time getting ready for my next run and see what effect that has.
