Monday – 8pm

Distance: 10km
Time: 54:17

My first post-ultimate run. Nothing too special about it except that it just felt natural to head out to the gym. Hopefully that sticks. Thursday was hockey, and Sunday I went out for pick-up ultimate. There was only one other person but we practiced some high-winds throwing and he showed me a drill. Pretty good stuff.

One Track Mind (and FeedBurner)

Ultimate wrapped up tonight. I am now 100% a runner… except for shinney tomorrow. Then I’m really really a 100% runner (except for pick-up ultimate on Sunday).

Hmmm…

In other news. I’ve migrated our feed to be tracked by FeedBurner. If you’re subscribed, please feel free to drop your old feed from your reader and re-subscribe.

On a Sunny Monday Evening

Thanks to the slow cooker, dinner was ready when I got home.  That meant I was finished eating and ready to run by a few minutes after 6.  It’s a nice evening here, bright blue skies and about 4C. A little cold, but the sunshine makes up for it.

I decided to run 14k.  There isn’t much time left, and I’d like to get used to the longer distances.  I headed out down the road, and was feeling pretty good.  I didn’t check my watch until my turn around spot.  When I got there I couldn’t believe it.  7k in 36 minutes.  Not exactly world record time but pretty good for me.  I drank some water, downed a power gel and off I went home.

The run home felt pretty good.  I was able to do more actual ‘running’ instead of my usual heavy footed plod.  I maintained a good speed on my way up the hills and cruised home.  I actually did the last km in a sprint so I could make an even time.

When I got home I couldn’t believe it.  14km in 1hr 15min 4 sec.  Easily my best run yet.

Sunday Quickie

Woke up Sunday feeling pretty good.   I went out and played 10 holes of disc golf.  After a health humous and pita lunch I went to the gym to watch basketball and run.

Sadly, the gym didn’t have any TVs showing NCAA basketball, so I was stuck watching country music videos with the sound off.  I ran a quick 3.5 miles then headed for home.

I’m feeling pretty good these days.  I’m not running any faster, but I’ve lost some weight and long distances no longer scare me like they once did.  Tonight I’ll run about 10km.  Tomorrow will be an off day because we’re starting pre-natal classes.

The Race to Chris’ Place

Last fall during a night out, Amy, Gabe and I considered running to our friends Chris and Nancy’s place.  They live in Byron, which is like Downtown London (where I live), except the roads don’t go in a grid, and there are fewer ‘interesting’ people to see when you walk down the street.  Amy thought it was 12 or 13km there.  No problem.

Well, this weekend, we finally did it.  We were heading there to watch March Madness, and it seemed like a good opportunity to complete this run.

I measured it out and it is a little over 12km.  I did it in 1hr 15min.  Not too bad I guess.  That seems to be the speed I run. Not as fast as I would like, but it is a pace that I think I can keep up for a long time.  I easily could have kept running for a while longer.  Amy also completed the race to Chris’ Place.  She came in about 5 minutes behind me.  Well done Amy!  I can’t wait to do it again.

It was also good to run in unfamiliar surroundings. I wasn’t entirely sure how to get there, so I just kept running down the path until I saw the sign that said ‘Byron’.  I think that experience will be good for the half marathon day.

After the run, the rest of the day was very good.  7 hours of watching basketball was very entertaining.  A very big thanks to Chris and Nancy for once again opening their home to those of us who don’t have cable.  Always appreciated!  Chris, if you ever want to come over and watch a streamed Raptors game, I’m always happy to return the favour.

It’s Sunday now, and a bit colder than I was hoping.  I’m going to go to the gym to run, and watch a bit more basketball.  Will report later.

No pain, little gain

I ran 11.4km last night. No pain in my knees either. What a relief! Time was mediocre, about 1hr 4 min. Not so bad, but I can do better.

Just 37 days left! Holy Cow! Time to get REALLY serious.

Tuesday – 6pm

Distance: 6.6492km
Time: 32 minutes

A pretty quick run outside. It was a busy weekend so I took it easy plus I’ve got ultimate finals this and next week so I’m going to lay a bit low with the running. After next Wednesday ultimate is over until after the race so I’ll be 100% a runner.

running and pain

Uh oh.
I went out for a run on Saturday. My now ‘typical’ 11.4km run to the Wonderland Bridge and home. Along the way I occasionally felt a little pain in my knee. I paused, stretched, walked a bit and it went away.
Later that night I was out for a walk and it REALLY hurt. I don’t know what this means. It still hurt on Sunday when I was out disc golfing.

I’m a little concerned. It didn’t hurt today (Monday) when I walked to work, so hopefully it is behind me. I’ll see how it feels this evening and either run or just go to the gym. I hate the gym though. Especially now that it is so nice out.

Despite the pain, the run was good. I ran 11.4 in about an hour. A decent time and a significant improvement from when I first started.

other weekend events. Planning for summer ultimate. Our new team, LOPA is shaping up nicely.

Distance: 5.6 km

Windy today. I’ve been told that races are never canceled due to weather so get used to it.

Ultimate tonight. Wahoo! A win tonight and we clinch #1.
