Wednesday – 7am

Distance: 10.1404
Time: 58 minutes

I went out thinking I’d run 6km, but then fear of the big day (see below) pushed it up to 10. The route I took also included a walk through the Tim’s line-up to get my bagel/coffee, and then I ran the last 1/2 km with those in my hand. Does that count for extra?

Not that I’m actually really for real concerned, but with the big day approaching I’m starting to feel a bit of pressure. I haven’t run more than 12km in a few weeks and now I’ve only got about a week and a half of real training (the last week I’ll probably just go for a couple short runs). I want to go for a 17km on Friday, and then next week bump it up to 20km, and then ride the last week before the race with a couple of morning 6’s.

Working on Speed

Spring arrived, and then it left.  Yuck.

I really need to work on speed, so I decided to run laps around the park last night.  It is exactly 1km around Victoria Park.  I figured I’d do 5 laps and see if I could keep my time under 5 min/lap.

The weather was awful.  It was windy and it was rainsnowing the whole time.  I hope this doesn’t last.

I did the 5 laps.  Only the first and last laps were under 5 minutes.  I guess I still have some work to do.  Not much time left before the race but it’s something to work on in the future.

I can’t run tonight, but I’ll go out for 10 or 11k on Wednesday.  The weather will be nice on the weekend, so I’ll try for two longer runs.

Saturday Run

I ran 16 km in 1hr 30 min. on Saturday.

I’m totally ready to run the whole thing.  I just need to work on speed from now until the big day.  I’m going to focus on shorter, faster runs during the week and just do a couple more long ones.

Sunday – 5pm

Distance: 10.7933 km
Time: 55 minutes

Wowie! Yesterday was a beautiful run. It was the first time I’ve been out without long sleeves on. The sun was shining. The birds were chirping. The grass was green… And this morning it’s snowing and raining and cold and windy! I actually got dressed to go running but I’m afraid no running took place. Somewhere between the door and the car my motivation left me.

I’m really starting to feel the pressure of the big day approaching. I only have two more weekends to get long runs in (and this weekend I’ll be traveling).  Like Michael, I feel pretty confident I’ll be able to finish, it’s just a matter of what pace that will be.  I hope to have a long run (17-ish) once this week (maybe in Kingston this weekend) and then I want to break 20km next week some time and then it’s just short runs until race day.

Update

Sorry everyone, I haven’t been keeping up with my blogging.  I have been running though.  I’ve been out a few times.  I did a few miles on a tread mill one night.  I did some laps around Victoria Park.  I’ve been on a longer run, and Gabe and I ran 9k the other day.

I’m off to Toronto tonight, but I think I’ll run 10 before I go.

3 weeks to go.  How exciting.  I feel pretty ready.  I don’t think I’ll be that fast, but I’m certainly able to do the run.

I bought some new shoes.  Saucony.  Hopefully they’ll be fast.

This is a dis-jointed blog post.  I’ll do better this week.

Friday – 7am

Distance: 10.1404
Time: 58 minutes

Wahoo. Three days this week feels great. Maybe I’ll even be able to get a run in this weekend in between the Raptors, TFC, and Habs games tomorrow.

The three week mark is fast approaching. I’ll need to be sure to be upping my weekly milage until the big day.
